Week 2 - Tutorial Task

Part 1

This is called "The Twitter Song." I just found this on Youtube and I found it to be really funny. It is relevant to New Communication Technology because it relates to Twitter and the opportunities to tweet, retweet, and be retweeted. In many ways, Twitter is becoming a more and more popular website used to access news, and other worldly facts. I chose this video because of the incorporation of music and clever language used to explain that if you haven't been on or retweeted on Twitter, then you don't know what you're missing.

The link shown above is a link to an application analysis for the iStrobe/Strobe application. The Strobe is an application that creates "Performance Profiles" through measuring application performances in single and multi-system environments. It also measures where these applications are processed and how much time is spent doing so. The iStrobe allows users to access the Strobe application through a web brower. Thus, the link shown above will help the user achieve their goals when using the iStrobe application. It seems like a very knowledgable system that is used by one of the most prestigious computer companies, IBM.

Part 2
New communication technologies have become a very large part of my life from the very young age of 10 when I got my first AIM screen name. I used it to communicate with my fellow 5th graders and have been using the application for 10 years now. Following getting an AIM screenname, I got a Myspace page in middle school. Along with this, I got my first Nokia phone that only made phone calls. Since then, I have become an avid user of Facebook and Twitter and a highly involved iPhone user. The technology has become apart of my identity and it has come to the point where I could not imagine life without my Facebook or Twitter. Unfortunately, I have been away from my iPhone for almost a month now that I am studying here in Australia for the semester, and it has definitely made my social obligations quite difficult to fulfill. But, it is not as bad as I thought it would be.

For the most part, I started using different social networks, applications, and high tech mobile devices because I saw my peers using them and got influenced. Little did I know that something so small like signing up for a social network like Facebook would entail so much stress since then. My life has revolved around putting privacy settings on my family and family friends while still trying to maintain who I am as a person on my social networking page. I believe that privacy is one of the biggest issues when it comes to these networks because applications can be bought by business owners and school officials to view your profile without any privacy settings and ultimately get you into trouble in the long run. The risk of releasing your personal information is very worrisome and prevents myself and others from putting too much online.
