Week 5 - Response to Content

In this week's lecture, we watched the first act of the movie Rubber. I found this to be a very interesting movie and very artistic in the way in which it was filmed. I had taken an "Intro to Film" class my first year at the university in the United States, so I found this to be very intriguing. I really enjoyed the way in which the tire was introduced to the film, starting with a long shot over the desert area that gave the viewer a scene and background as to where the movie was taking place. The camera then had a close up shot of the tire slowly wiggling its way out of the ground. In a way, it signified a rebirth of some sort. The second shot that I believed to be very and interesting was when you could see the bird through the tire. It was as if the tire was looking at it through its hole, signifying the large group of human spectators looking through their binoculars. The shot looking down on the tire and bird signifies a looming death for the bird. All in all, I found the movie to be very interesting and very good in terms of the shots that the director created.
